In reply to the discussion: Confederate flag: [View all]Melon
(718 posts)I live in Texas. Its been years since Ive seen a southern flag flown and then in a very rural setting. I used to see the flags in Georgia snd South Carolina. Kentucky as well. This was 15-25 years ago. But even in the south, they are viewed as offensive. And you would have to be a devoted racist to have one, because they arent sold. 20 years ago youd see flags because they were still sold at Walmart. It was prior to todays enlightenment.
Ive also not heard the N word in 15 years either used by a white person down here. I speak to black colleagues down here about these things and its simply not a part of our lives. Our children are not exposed to it at all. The old view of the south is largely squarely in the past. The last racist rant I heard was 2 years ago in Philadelphia about Jews.
