In reply to the discussion: "Any Democrat who supports this war with Iran needs to be primaried" - David Hogg [View all]I dont know how anyone can seriously argue that the Democratic Party hasnt moved rightward since 1980. Yes, the GOP has gone completely off the rails, but that doesnt mean Democrats have stayed in place. They pushed for trade deals like NAFTA that devastated manufacturing towns. They passed the 1994 crime bill, which led to mass incarceration and hit Black and brown communities the hardest. They've consistently failed to act on gun violence, despite decades of shootings. And after all the outrage over January 6th, they let Trump walk away with barely a consequence.
They like to talk progressive when its safe, but when they actually have power, they hesitate. Whether its fear of backlash or comfort with corporate interests, its not the same party it was in the New Deal or even the 70s. Thats a rightward shift, whether people want to admit it or not.
What I stated above isn't bashing Democrats or the party. They're facts that annoy me personally.
