7. This is not new info, so maybe a play by the WH to discredit Musk?

This administration doesn't care about information security, communication protocol, retaining records, or any idea of process a normal administration would care about.

The lack of security of Starlink and other non-official communication and data channels was known to anyone with a passing idea of normal behavior ("intuitively obvious to a casual observer" is the phrase we used to use).

So why leak this now? Leaks have been used by presidential administrations going back to Washington. in addition to taking in the content of any WH communication, pay attention to the timing.

My guess: It's both a warning to Musk that those big Starlink contracts he is wanting could be removed, and a way to discredit him.
