(18,402 posts)And say that I think it's both politically and morally wrong to monetize crazy or hateful right-wing stuff, or to give it a forum. And I presume that every click over there earns some pennies. At a minimum, it provides succor to people whose ideas we often find offensive.
I thought DU was started for altruistic reasons, and sure, its administrators need to support the site and themselves. Which is why we contribute (or, alternately, endure advertising that provides support).
But to try to franchise your organization out to ideological foes is not kosher, and I can't see any rationale for it. Frankly, it's like a gun control group saying it will open a rifle range that teaches 9-year-olds to fire Uzi submachine guns ... under the pretext that it will keep the gun nuts busy and away from their own clubhouse. That'd be wrong. And any dollars earned from such a venture would be extremely tainted.
I too will reconsider my status here. I don't shop at stores or buy products that support right-wing causes, and I'm afraid I'd have to apply the same rules here.
