10. Ohtani vs Ruth is laughable.

Ruth averaged .342 for his career. Ohtani’s highest season average is .310. Ruth’s career WAR is a stratospheric 182.8; Ohtani is currently sitting at 43.8. Ohtani is the best player in baseball today but he has a long way to go to get his career stats into Ruthian territory.

The Gordie Howe hat trick is a game where a player has at least one each of a goal, an assist and a fight. Interestingly, Howe had only two such games in his career. Without checking the alltime list, I will say Brendan Shanahan is the career leader in this category.

This is close but I give the nod to Bench on the strength of his 10 Gold Gloves. Pudge Rodriguez deserves to be considered in this discussion, also.

Mays- he has more than 100 more homers than Mantle and over 400 more RBI’s. Also, Mays has over 800 more base hits and more than 1500 total bases than Mantle. He also dwarfs Mantle in WAR. Duke Snider is a legitimate HOFer but he benefitted greatly from the cozy confines of Ebbets Field which was tailor made for his left handed stroke.

I am no expert on basketball but Bill Russell’s Celtics won 11 titles in his 13 years. Russell also won 5 MVP’s which was 1 more than Wilt Chamberlain and matches Jordan. He was also on two NCAA national title winning teams. He is my choice as the NBA’s GOAT. As for Jordan vs. LeBron, I give the nod to Jordan as he could just take over ball games in clutch time.

Holmes- that powerful jab of his simply punished opponents. Holmes to me is underrated but that would likely happen to any heavyweight champ following in the footsteps of “The Greatest”.
