by Robert Sawyer. It's a noir detective novel set on Mars. Very good.

Ben H. Winters (Golden State) has also written an amazing trilogy The Last Policeman, Countdown City, and World of Trouble which are essentially police procedural novels set in the final year or so before a civilization destroying asteroid is going to hit Earth. Very good.
