had more submarines than the U.S., and with better technology.

Years later, it turned out all aspects of Russian submarine technology was inferior to ours, and the number of boats was about equal. But because we rushed getting nukes deployed to counter the Khrushchev's perceived threat to us, and we sadly lost that boat and crew.
