I can see being a bigger deal than influence.
I had a suspicion that my sleazy former employer, this nightmarish spooky hell, was probably aware of like all this Russian and Chinese ransomware because all these creeps buy cheap shit and then look at porn and then probably tell us all that it is like a vaccine!
“We” all these perverts and their porn, fraud, misconduct and Ol’ jfzz9580m and her pot should all tacitly accept a surveillance state as “no one is innocent” and “we” should pull together. Fuck that. All the creeps and their porn and fraud can go to hell.
Some pot is not worth this 15 year bts and now more overt attack on democracy.
I don’t really have any views on Russia (sympathy for Ukraine aside and respect for Zelensky-who really does seem different from the typical leader) though Putin is a creep.
But my ex follows US politics closely. He is a really staunch dem as is his mom who is actually like a grassroots boots on the ground base type. I am very fond of her. He used to post here long back.
But he is very..like he never just repeats what everyone says and he has consistently called out what he says is the type of dem he doesn’t like..and he is no Jill Stein or Nader supporter. His worldview is very aligned with DU that way.
But he thinks a set of dem spook propagandists have overhyped the Russia thing and conned a portion of the online left.
That is why he (and I for other reasons) really likes Yasha Levine, who doesn’t have positions that are ideological entirely -like “our” side must win - rather he is more reality based l. Everyone claims their position is reality based.
But still..I don’t like a paranoia tendency to call anyone people disagree with a Russian bot etc.
It has parallels on parts of the farther left which sees Israel and AIPAC everywhere.
I take the position of Dr.House that ..well a version of that..which is that all these fuckers are out to break the planet and Ol’jfz9580m’s purse.
I jest..but as a scientist, I find some of that style of thinking which seems derived from lobbying groups, spooks, sports fans and gamers more than honest journalists/scientists/activists grating.
It is likd Facebook’s dumb “emotion contagion”.
These creeps wish they had that kind of influence. They have a dazed, undereducated captive populace online and exaggerate loose associations found in data swamps and with ai in there as well.
I tend to think these are all distractions from the economic war of attrition/the destruction of earth and that installing more corporate friendly politicians (whether it is that creep Reid Hoffman or Peter Thiel) is the end game.
I am not American so, it is not really..My preoccupation is more how those foul tech methodologies and these Californian Ideology driven bs things are now annoying me all the way over here in the Global South.
