3. My grandparents lived in Los Angeles surrounded by mostly camouflaged oil wells...

... and they received small royalty checks every year for the oil that was pumped out from beneath their their home.

On top of the smog, the lead from leaded gasoline, the toxic particles from tires and asbestos brakes, etc., any emissions from these oil wells were only a small fraction of the environmental horrors of mid-twentieth century America.

I don't know what happened to the waste water from these wells but it seems likely it was simply dumped into the sewers and discharged into the ocean with minimal treatment.

My grandma, who didn't smoke or drink and didn't allow smoking or drinking in her home, died horribly of cancer. There's no way to tell if these environmental toxins caused that. Statistically these toxins do kill people.

It's unspeakable that so many morons want to return to those times.Those were not the "good old days."
