8. Another option to consider: Qualified charitable distributions

If you're 70 1/2* or older, you can donate up to $100,000 to charities directly from your IRA and have that counted toward your RMD for the year.

*While the RMD age increased to 72, my understanding is that the minimum age to make a QCD did not increase.
