1- You can always go to the Microsoft site to get information, or just use a Google search, or ask us here.

2- Now you can delay updates for a while, at least in Windows 10 Pro, which I have. Do you have Windows 10 Home ?

3- Microsoft is trying to get better about the update thing

4- You are thinking about Windows 10 S ( https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4020089/windows-10-s-faq ), which will run on a laptop similar to a Chromebook. Otherwise, you can run any software you want as long as you have Windows Home, etc.

5- To find out what version you have, do this:

a) Left click the Start button in the lower left of your screen
b) You should see a gearwheel-looking icon on the left hand side. Left click that.
c) That should bring you to the new Settings page.
d) Click the System icon
e) Look down the left hand side of that System page. See "About" ? Click that.
f) On the right hand side of About, it tells you what Windows version you have. It will be under "Windows Specifications".
g) Look to the immediate right of "Edition". It should say Windows 10 Home or something close to that.

Ask any questions you have.
