I have a relative who has some serious substance abuse problems. He's in a halfway house 2 year program (I think - he recently got busted speeding with a suspended license). Name it he's done it from what I understand.

During all this he's held several good paying jobs:
Banks
Power company
Manufacturing

Really good pay and benefits.

My mom and I were talking about it and she said, "How is he still getting all these jobs?" She's concerned of course but just doesn't understand.
I said to her, "He can get off the couch and show up. He can handle basic trainable tasks. They are dying to hire anyone who can do that and he stands out when a lot of other people are just wiped out all the time"
