Yar was killed early Monday morning while finishing a late shift on rideshare app Lyft.
WUSA9 reported that Yar was an interpreter for U.S. Army Special Forces in Afghanistan and escaped with his family after the fall of the Afghan government to the Taliban in 2021.
Yar had been working twelve-hour shifts every day as the sole provider for his wife and four children, who age from 13 years to 16 months, WUSA9 reported. Yar was also sending money home to his family in Afghanistan.
Surveillance video of the scene shows four people running from the scene and captured an exchange between them, with one saying You killed him, and another responding, He was reaching bro.
