Jim Brewster won the election to the 45th Senatorial District seat by only 69 votes. The controversy stems from the fact that in Allegheny County, mail-in ballots that were missing the hand-written date on the envelope were counted. However similar mail-in ballots from Westmoreland County were not counted.

The PA Supreme Court has already ruled Jim Brewster the winner, now it has been seconded by U.S. District Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan.
