Ex-NDOC chief says he was told to lie about inmate escape; gov's office says he wants $1M [View all]
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) The former director of the state's prisons alleges he was instructed to falsify details of an inmate's escape, while the Nevada governor's office says he demanded $1 million over his forced resignation earlier this week or would go to the press.
Daniels gave an in-person statement to reporters Friday morning about response to the September escape of Porfirio Duarte-Herrera, who was convicted of murder and serving a life sentence in the 2007 bombing at the Luxor that killed one person.
Duarte-Herrera had escaped from the Southern Desert Correctional Center in Indian Springs. NDOC initially said they learned he was missing during a scheduled count on Tuesday, Sept. 27, but added later said he had been unaccounted for since Sept. 23
