from the first four seasons at the American Revolution Museum in Yorktown, VA (which is an excellent museum). It was marvelous. Really well done. The costumes were displayed against huge murals of the scenes in which they were worn. Several interactive video programs on a number of the displays. They had Claire's wedding dress (the embroidery on the dress is exquisite) and Jamie's wedding clothes; the red dress from Versailles as well as the Dior inspired blue/white outfit Claire wears to first visit Master Raymond, and Jamie's also exquisitely embroidered blue waistcoat, with custom buttons. Outlander music was playing in each of the display rooms. There were quite a few benches scattered about (unusual in a museum) and I sat for awhile in a spot where I could see the wedding clothes and the Paris clothes. You could feel the presence of the characters. Black Jack's red coat was on display, along with a caption that the day Tobias Menzies arrived for a fitting, he was wearing ordinary street clothes. When he put on the jacket, the designer could see the change in his posture, that he was taking on the character of Black Jack just by putting on the red coat. I've heard Sam Heughan talk about how putting on Jamie's boots would put him in character, but it was interesting to see a confirmation that worked for other actors as well.
