how getting this Qatari aircraft is any help. Whether the plane was purchased or a “gift” it doesn’t have any of the equipment AF1 needs and it would take years and a couple of billion to upgrade it. I don’t see how Boeing could do the conversion any faster than they are doing with the VC-25B replacement aircraft they are currently working on.

I guess they could fly it as is but there would be significant risks to doing that that don’t exist with even the VC-25As now in service.
