BTW, today is May 4th and Star Wars was influenced by the samurai films of Akira Kurosawa and his actor, Toshiro Mifune.
Plot wise, there are similarities between A New Hope and Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress.
First choice of Lucas to play Kenobi was Mifune, not Alec Guinness.
Even American-produced films have strong international influences.
