61. I would suspect that the Republicans are smart enough not to nominate Rubio

The miserable showings of both Rubio and Harris in the 2020 primaries are indication enough for me that neither party would be best-served with those nominees—not that my view is of even passing interest to either party.

I have to recuse on Mark Kelly. I’ve known him for many years, and am quite confident he would do a credible job if he were to win the presidency. He was smart enough to say that while he was maintaining a passing interest, he wasn’t even going to make a decision to try for it until next year, and even that was at best a definite “maybe.” He said this sitting across the table from me in Paris less than four months ago, and he had no incentive to lie about it. For that matter, I don’t know of him lying about anything. He is not a career politician. You don’t set up a voter base while orbiting in a space station for months at a time. You worry about oxygen leaks, not polls set up by the WT Press Agency.

The midterms are what count right now, not whether or not Kamala Harris chats on the phone with the mayor of NYC. I am pretty sure that John Hickenlooper will win re-election in Colorado, although I wouldn’t count out Republican cheating to try to spoil that somehow. The Senate elections in Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, Michigan, New Hampshire, Maine and Alaska are of immediate and vital importance. Who has coffee with AOC is not.
