Thomas Paine vehemently opposed ANY collusion between church and state.
The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States forbids the establishment of an official state religion, and furthermore, grants everyone the right to worship as they see fit.
Article VI of the Constitution bans any religious test as a qualification for holding public office.

Christian nationalists are a diseased sect intent on imposing their religious views on everyone else in the country. They push that bullshit at their peril.
