Even in the 2024 election, Harris/Walz ran on unity and focused on core issues, not "victim/oppressor" hierarchies and so forth. The hangover from that stuff hurt them though.
I think you're right that Republicans are now doing a lot more identity politics, particularly their "fringe." But I think we could get a lot of their moderates, especially those who switched from Obama to Trump, if we lower the mic volume of the fringe of both sides.
