(22,007 posts)You've obviously got your mind made up, and I'm officially noping out of pursuing this issue any further here and now. Sorry I spent so much time trying to clarify what slut shaming is, because it was obviously a waste of effort and energy. But maybe someone else will read this conversation and learn something. Who knows?
By the way, I don't care for those "size" jokes, either, and I don't participate in them, because I think they're silly. But from what I've seen, men post comments like that at least as often as women do here at DU, so your beef is not with me. (I don't use any other social media these days, so all my comments here are about DU culture, not the internet at large.)
I'm also not a fan of comments that equate qualities like courage with the ownership of testicles. I'm pretty sure there are people of just about every gender here at DU, and I feel those comments are disrespectful to cis women, trans people, intersex people...basically anyone without "standard issue" male genitalia, WHETHER THEY ARE MEANT THAT WAY OR NOT. In the 21st century, i don't think we should be equating character traits with genitalia of any kind. Not because it has anything to do with either misandry or misogyny, but because genitalia have nothing to do with the kind of person someone is.
I imagine a lot of us have a list of pet peeves regarding certain types of comments that bug us. But it's not possible to control other people's behavior and trying to do so is exhausting, so I mostly just roll my eyes at those things, keep scrolling, and take comfort in the fact that I know most people of every gender here at DU really do have a respectful attutude towards everyone else. It's one of my favorite things about this place.
