(4,709 posts)Considering she wasnt the President and had no control over the situation. However, she didnt call out the genocide in Gaza for what it is and I dont believe she has to this day. She also refused to have a Palestinian speaker at the convention. Which led people to believe that the policy wouldnt change much from what it had been under President Biden. And, quite frankly, it probably wouldnt have. She wasnt going to cut Israel off or condemn them in a meaningful way. Obviously, there wouldnt have been talk of beachfront resorts and the like but that doesnt really matter to the people of Gaza, theyd still be getting bombed to smithereens, although perhaps on a slightly lesser level as they worked toward a ceasefire. The foreign policy in that area doesnt really change that much from administration to administration. Because it cant.
As for protesting her now at book signings, it serves little purpose. Its obvious shes still clinging to the possibility of a further career in politics and shes just not going to say anything to upset the apple cart in the Middle East. She cant. Not if she wants to count on the kind of fundraising it takes to mount a national campaign.
It comes down to the reason we support Israel so staunchly in the first place. It has nothing to do with democracy or the rapture or protecting Jewish people from their enemies and everything to do with having a footing in the area to protect the trade routes, to protect capitalism. Thats all it is, money. If they were located somewhere in the middle of Africa, we wouldnt give a shit about them any more than we care about Darfur or Congo or any of those other countries where genocide is ongoing.
I think Harris knows whats right and would probably love to do whats right but she cant/couldnt. And neither can anyone who wins the Presidency because the system we live under can not, will not allow it.
