Loosely based on mobster Whitey Bulger and the corruption of the Boston FBI, the movie’s plot looked at a situation where the cops had infiltrated the crooks who had infiltrated the cops who answered to an infiltrated FBI who was answering to the orders of the most corrupt bastard of all, Jack Nicholson’s character based on Whitey Bulger.

To solve their problems, the crooks would metaphorically drop an anvil on the guy. In real life, he would get warned by his chums in FBI and escape Justice. Unfortunately for Bulger, the corruption was exposed. After conviction and imprisonment, a fellow inmate murdered him in prison. Like in Stalin’s day: “No man. No problem.”
