The fact that his numbers, as bad as they are, are as good as they are, should be alarming. How can 4 people in 10 be in favour of this...I can't think of a word that can sum it up or describe it by itself? "Lunacy" certainly fits, but it lacks the inclusion of "evil."

There are certainly other nuances, but "evil lunacy" is a decent start.

"Stupidity". FOX news followers who question nothing they hear on that channel become lassoed by the prejudiced thought patterns all around them.


Beyond that, there is willful ignorance and in many cases... "geological bias".

Your alternative examples also have a lot of merit, but I think that some miracle that swept away the wilful ignorance would turn the tide almost completely, in time.
