David Frum interview...thought it was interesting...I paraphrased some of his thoughts in summary

(..not sure why I do not recall seeing any of his videos here)

Trump’s reasons for what he does make no sense.

No one in China is going to take Trump seriously that Trump is trying to contain them, he is smashing up the alliance system that is the only hope to contain China.

I see malignancy more than madness. Trump is delusional in many ways, but the the delusions are always in favor of Putin, in favor of anti-democratic establishments.

Trump has been doing a series of constitutional illegalities in the past few weeks to test the limits.

Life is action, life is decision.
I don’t think we achieve anything useful by standing back from the scene..stroking our chin and uttering some meditation about what America is. We should be looking inward asking what will we do if we don’t as citizens respond to these attacks on the legal structure and on alliances then things will be very very bad, but if we do the residual strength of the democratic idea is also very powerful so lets do that.

Trump is not isolationist, it’s not non-interventionist, it’s a predatory government.

The United Sates used to say invasions across international borders are so dangerous we will even use military to stop it. (think Korea, Vietnam, Kuwait) Every legitimate interest of the US in Greenland could be achieved by cooperation.
But for trump the predation is the end.

Republican party is more statist party, a much more protectionist party, a much less respect for the Constitution and rule of law party than it used to be.

Trump can lead this party in all kinds of strange directions it’s not something that has a kind of inner ideological, it’s more a leader principle party.

Many of the people he has selected for positions should be nowhere near positions if responsibility in
any well-ordered state.

1. The summary is much appreciated. Going from that, I'd say tRump is trying to be the ultimate real estate tycoon.

He want's to enlarge US real estate with Greenland, Panama, Canada, Gaza, and Ukraine. He believes he's a great deal maker but he just a mafia boss so he tries to strong arm and bully everybody. He says to Canada, be the 51st state because it will be better economically. He can't understand why not everybody drops their culture and way of life just to make a few more bucks.

Since he can't take land by honey, he is trying the brass knuckles. Leaning on everybody and threatening to beat them up. Diplomacy? Cooperation? No, just threaten them. America First is America Lonely.

His best chance is in Gaza because Netanyahu is combining ethnic cleansing with a forever war to stay in power.

As you write, tRump is predatory. It is because a hammer is his only tool.

2. There's two options now to stop Fascism before Summer 2025

A) The House impeaches #47 and VP. Senate confirms and all seditious conspirators are arrested.

B) 11 million people take to the streets 24/7. Different people across multiple locations. The national guard, police, and military lay down their weapons and march with the nation!

We know option B is the only way now. I’ve told my children that I will give my blood. It’s my duty to them and to my family who fought in WW 1 and 2 . I will not surrender or kneel down and beg.

I honor my own oath to defend the constitution and I shall .

I shall.

I will march on April 5th to stop fascism , greed, hate and destruction.

No one is coming to save us. We do this together or we loose our nation.

5. Actually, B supports A. It can get good trouble enough and large enough that R Senators turn against tRump

Option B is still the only one to spend time on right now, even though it will take many actions to build size as tRump disphoria spreads and deepens. Along with legislative friction and court cases. Rhetoric helps, as Sanders and AOC are showing.

Keep thinking of all ways to resist. Mass action includes buying pauses, boycotts, protests, attendance, activism, general strikes, and more.

He was a former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, joined Rudolph Giuliani's presidential campaign as a senior foreign policy adviser in 2007 and was a long time conservative. He wrote for the Daily Beast, now writes for the Atlantic, voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and left the Republican Party in Nov 2024.
(that's too brief but he is definitely not a left winger)

“I don’t think we achieve anything useful by standing back from the scene stroking our chin … and uttering some meditation about what America is. Point is democracy is a very radical idea, always has been. It’s constantly undermined by enemies and opponents and we are in one of those times of testing now and so I don't think any of us should be looking outward and saying what's going to happen, we should be looking inward asking what will we do. If we don’t, as citizens, respond to these attacks on the legal structure and on alliances then things will be very very bad, but if we do, the residual strength of the democratic idea is also very powerful. So let’s do that.”
