... on his deathbed in 1999. He said, "On the Amazon, we were using HUFF-DUFF."

I finally wrote the last chapter of his military service history as far as it can go within the last month, March 2025. Some of it is still classified 80 years later.

2. Kudos to your Dad. I would guess that a great many who served live with military secrets, especially from WWII

I'd never thought of my own Dad knowing military secrets, but I guess it's possible since he was radio operator on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Ranger, though he didn't serve during wartime, he was only 13. He had lots of stories, like lashing himself to a table during a storm and planes trying to land on a moving ship, but nothing seemed secret to us kids.

..... u-boat 505 in the museum. A recent book Code Name: Nemo. It's a great read and the Americans managed to track it and capture it. Sneaking it back to the US keeping the capture of the u-boat and an enigma machine. They hid the captured crew in a prison of war secret camp in Louisiana I believe. To keep the Germans from knowing we had an enigma machine and all the documents for encoding and decoding messages My dad was in a jungle radio station on the Amazon River intercepting the huff-duff communications that helped locate u-boats in the South Atlantic.

So far, I've only been to Chicago once, at the airport when I was on vacation from school going with my Dad to visit my grandmother who was spending the winter in Arizona. Thanks for the information, I love reading about history.
