President Putin has reacted to Trump’s call to spare Ukrainian lives in Russia’s Kursk region, saying Kyiv’s troops will be spared if they “lay down their arms”.

“We are sympathetic to President Trump’s call,” Putin said in televised remarks. “If they lay down their arms and surrender, they will be guaranteed life and dignified treatment.” - 03/15/2025.

Ukrainians have learned how from Russian behavior on the ground is and exchanged Ukrainian prisoners have said that the conditions of their captivity are almost as grim as those of German and Italian prisoners held by Stalin’s Soviet Union during and after World War II.
