Let's talk about Trump, the CIA, and the 25th Amendment.... - Belle of the Ranch

Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Trump, the CIA, and the 25th Amendment.

We had a question come in from a European who was curious about something former CIA director John Brennan said recently. It's worth going over because it doesn't just answer their questions, but it also answers a lot of others. Okay, so here's the question.

I've thought your president was mad since his first term. Now that he's back in office, I often think you're all mad. Here's my question. I saw where a former chief of your intelligence service has said Trump needs to be removed because he couldn't be trusted with nukes. Does this make it more likely and can that actually be done?

Let's start with what was said. Brennan said, "This person is clearly unhinged. I think the 25th Amendment was written with Donald Trumps in mind because allowing someone like this to continue to be the commander -in-chief and to control the tremendous capabilities of the US military, including our nuclear weapons capability, which he seemed to allude to when he said he's going to just eliminate an entire civilization.”

Pretty straightforward.

Okay. Now, on to the questions. Can it actually be done? I'll put an explainer on the 25th Amendment below that goes over all of the ins and outs, but the short answer is yes. Section 4 lays it out. The vice president and then most of the Cabinet need to agree, and with Trump, he'd probably deny it. So, then it would need to go to Congress.

It's complex, but it could be done. While everybody focuses on this method, it's worth noting that the amendment also allows Congress to designate another body to have that power. So, Congress could allow themselves to do it along with the VP or designate another group like say the Joint Chiefs.

The point is that yes, under the law, it can be done, but it's incredibly unlikely that it will with this Cabinet and the current Congress. You would think that Brennan's words would carry some weight because he was a top national security guy under both Republicans and Democrats.

But to a lot of Trump's base who still believe the establishment billionaire who is constantly trying to enact long-term establishment goals is somehow anti-establishment, Brennan's history will actually hurt his case. They'll view him as some deep state intelligence guy. The fact that he's been a vocal critic of Trump in the past won't help either and Trump revoked his clearance at one point, too. So, this guy's commentary won't help move the needle on the Republican side.

However, there have been a few people to suggest using the 25th Amendment that are moving the needle a little bit on that side of the aisle.

Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who was once a Trump cheerleader, posted, “25th Amendment. Not a single bomb has dropped on America. We cannot kill an entire civilization. This is evil and madness.

Alex Jones came out and asked, "How do we 25th Amendment his rear?" He didn't say rear.

He's losing support on that side of the aisle, but that group currently doesn't have the juice to push the issue. Can you imagine saying something so out of bounds and crazy that Alex Jones thinks you're nuts?

Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
