FULL DEBATE: U.S. Senate Backs Trump's Iran Strikes - War Powers Showdown in Congress - DRM News

In a high-stakes showdown on Capitol Hill, the U.S. Senate voted 53-47 to block a bipartisan resolution aimed at limiting Donald Trump's war powers regarding military strikes against Iran.

The vote largely fell along party lines, with Republicans backing Trump's authority to conduct operations against Tehran, while Democrats argued that Congressnot the White Households the constitutional power to declare war. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer warned against plunging "headfirst into a war that Americans do not want," while Republicans like James Risch (R-ID) cited Article II of the Constitution, stating the President has the "duty" to protect the nation.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives continued its debate on a similar resolution, with figures like Hakeem Jeffries condemning the "unauthorized war of choice" and Republican Thomas Massie questioning the administration's justification for the strikes.

Watch the full floor debate, key soundbites, and the final vote that solidified Trump's backing in the Senate. - 03/05/2026.

Then why not just declare war the old-fashioned way?

Oh . . . . . guess that pesky filibuster will just get in the way.

I hope that Democrats will be running with the message that their republican brethren got us into a third world war.

There is no declaration of war so it's make-up on a pig doesn't mean it passes constitution muster

Sounds like all the Republicans except for Rand Paul are ready for war...
