"He Never Opened His Eyes" Rep. Jasmine Crockett on What She Saw Inside Dilley Detention Center - CNN Laura Coates Live

Rep. Jasmine Crockett joins Laura Coates to describe her visit to a federal detention facility where she met five-year-old Liam and his father.

For nearly 30 minutes, Liam never moved. He never opened his eyes. His father told her he wasn’t eating, had been labeled depressed, and kept asking for his mother and when he could go back to school. His pregnant mother has since been hospitalized due to stress.

Crockett explains why what she witnessed was worse than any detention facility she saw as a criminal defense attorney, including reports of children getting sick from the water, families being held far longer than officials claim, and a system that continues to detain people who have no criminal records and were “doing it the right way.”

This is not about politics. This is about children. And it is happening right now. - Aired on 01/29/2026.

"detention facility" twice.

Is there a different definition for each?

I'm confused. ❤️

they will just compare it to what the Nazis did and then people wont take it seriously .

There is nothing wrong with calling it detention center. Maybe there are other terms that can be used but it's not a positive sounding word. It describes what it is and it doesn't bring up thoughts of anything good.

My niece was telling me just today how her almost 4-year old son never wants to leave her side. I think of my own sons, one also named Liam, at age 5 - and my heart breaks.

I can't imagine the trauma of that poor little boy and the many thousands like him who are nameless and unknown. The mothers and fathers too.

May all involved know, at least once in their heartless miserable lives, the fear, pain and terror felt by all the Liams and their mothers and fathers. Magnified by a thousand.

when I first posted the Huff Post article last night, reading that article deeply affected and enraged me. I was literally speechless.

I saw Rep. Crockett’s interview and it made me ill this baby is not receiving the treatment he deserves. He’s brokenhearted without his mom, depressed because he can’t go to school, and can’t have his bunny hat and Spider-man backpack.

My fantasy: organize a posse to storm that concentration camp and liberate those kids so they be reunited with their families..
