Raw Story - GOP lawmakers privately saying Trump has 'gone too far': Dem senator

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) on Friday revealed to CNN's Sara Sidner that some of her Republican colleagues are privately getting squeamish about President Donald Trump's actions.
During the CNN interview, Shaheen discussed Trump's declaration that he "trusts" Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has a very long track record of being untrustworthy given his insistence that he had no intentions of invading neighboring Ukraine shortly before he launched a military invasion into that country just over three years ago.
"It's clear that Vladimir Putin is manipulating Donald Trump," she said. "And it shows what a weak position he is in, that he doesn't understand that he's being manipulated. Vladimir Putin is a murderous dictator. He is a thug who understands one thing, and that is strength, and anytime he thinks he can get the better of Donald Trump, he is going to do that."
Later in the interview, Shaheen said that it was time for her Republican colleagues who want to defend Ukraine against Russia to step up say in public what they've been saying behind closed doors.
"We hope that... our Republican colleagues will wake up and say, 'This is not the direction that we should be heading in,'" she said. "They will put a check on the president, which is the responsibility of congress."

This is the kind of stuff people at her level really shouldn't bother saying anymore

Who cares what they say in private? It's what they do and say in public that matters.

They should check their voting records.

(49,876 posts)3. They go along with Trump so they can fix it when he's gone
and rail against Democratic "extremism". There will be a big market for repairing the damage.

People who say republicans disagree w/tsf are just trying to give republicans cover. I resent the people who are trying to give republicans cover so that they can have it both ways.

Is all that helpful.

(25,480 posts)9. Operative word: "privately." Cowardly scumbags will never stand up for anything in public.

Until these gutless turds actually do something, breathless reports like this are meaningless.
For months we got breathless reports how THIS time Trump was ruined. Never happened, never will.
Yes, I am cynical and, yes, I am paranoid. But just because I am paranoid that doesnt mean they are not out to get me.
