(55,849 posts)Besides the constant refrain of "that proposal wouldn't have stopped the last mast shooter from accessing a weapon" misses the point. The goal isn't to keep an already dead murderer from buying more guns but to protect public safety more generally. As you rightly have pointed out, far more people die from daily gun violence.

Since 1970 there have been about 4000 deaths from terrorists on US soil, so we have to take our shoes off and be X-rayed before getting on a plane. Over the same period 900,000 people have died from gun violence and we can't get universal background checks.
In the last decade there have been more toddlers shot than police on active duty and that is just fucked up.
