I hear this, "God chooses imperfect men to do his perfect deeds" bullshit. Does anyone know where that came from?

The earliest we know of speech or manuscript? I'm looking a search only gives me a bunch of crap preaching exactly that.

I always answer that Jesus threw the money makers out of the Temple and warned them of a false
Prophet. They just mistook The Menace because he is truly the devils work.

Of course they love it when an atheist starts explaining the Bible to them. 😂
Adding that he is more like a false Idol for them. I mean if Gawd really existed wouldn’t HE go after his hard core followers and not the rest of us? Who is the greatest snag for Satan? Evangelicals or ordinary agnostics?

Does one have to pay a church for using this excuse? Like old style 'indulgences'?

... and we are all imperfect.

He called St Paul to lead the church. A mass murdering serial killer. It drove me to distraction: it seemed like making Charlie Manson Pope. It took me years of mulling it before I understood: the Kingdom is open to all. All it requires is accepting the offer. If a murderer can lead, we all can lead.

which held that a sinful priest could still administer effective communion, confession, baptism--all the rites. Here is a contemporary reference (edited to add: "contemporary" as in our time, not medieval time):

“We have to be in grace to receive Communion. What about the priest who is giving us the Eucharist?” asked Gill. In the wake of news about scandals in the church, this question might be one that some of the faithful are wondering. If a priest is in a state of mortal sin, does his celebration of the sacraments continue to be valid?

“It’s still valid because if a bad priest says a Mass, it’s still a good Mass; because it’s Christ who works the sacrament. If that priest does and intends what the Church does and intends, then it is valid,” explained Father Richard Simon, host of Father Simon SaysTM on Relevant Radio®."

If I come across a papal bull or something, I'll post it.

There's also something called "Rasputinism," which we find rampant among American protestants, which holds that the greater the sins committed, the greater the triumph of faith when the sinner repents or otherwise gets his act together.

Then there's that thing in the Bible about the prodigal son.

Those who make this claim are pulling it out of their ass. It's basically a compilation of different Bible stories, about how God chooses ordinary or imperfect people to do astounding things.

Though the quote has been attributed to:
Rick Warren
David Young
Elizabeth George

and not only is it a hoot, but it's highly informative.

The main host over the years has been one Matt Dillahunty, who was a born-again christian for some 25 years, until he decided he wanted to become a pastor, started researching his religion and beliefs, and realized it's all b.s.

He's big on actual proof of things. Love the guy.

and usually cite the story of Lot, one of the OT's real charmers. Noah was another one. A lot of those old patriarchs were pond scum and I've always been shocked by preachers and priests who have held them up as examples of righteousness. Made me disbelieve in the authority of priests and preachers, along with a single word of that old book. Too much of ist is just plain silly, with much of it downright evil.

A lot of believers claim it's in various chapters and verses of the Book of Hebrews, but they're drawing on commentaries about that book instead of driect quotes.

As I sais, it's a great way for men to justify diddling children while they do So Much Good Work (TM). No one ever seems to think about the people they are destroying on their way to heaven.

Since I had heard of him and his conversion from "The Maga gospel" of hate, I added some material on how he wised up. It took a horrendous mass murder to shock him out of the evangelomaga trance.

Few do. I believe that his Evangelical org gave him the boot.

I heartily agree on the bullshit way "forgiveness" is used by many. To them, it's a hall pass to go do more of the same, and no notion of restoring others for the damage done. They just double down. It reminds me of the time the church sold indulgences.

Pay your way out? How orange!! Buy judges? Of course.
