CLEVELAND, Ohio -- FS1 personality Skip Bayless opened Tuesdays episode of Undisputed by explaining a tweet he posted in the moments following the devasting injury to Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin on Monday night.
No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game - but how?, he wrote not long after viewers watched Hamlin collapse to the ground and then medical staff and players from both teams surround him, eventually learning he was administered CPR before being rushed to the hospital. This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome ... which suddenly seems so irrelevant.
The reaction was swift.
Youre a sick individual. Real talk, ESPN NBA analyst and former Cavaliers center Kendrick Perkins tweeted at Bayless.
The tweet represents how us pro athletes get dehumanized because of money and entertainment, posted Broncos defensive end and Ohio State alum DreMont Jones.
F--- you Skip Bayless, former Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant added. We need to cancel Skip Bayless ASAP!!
Pathetic, Browns cornerback Greg Newsome chimed in.

I have never liked Bayless, he is out there too far for me and has pulled stunts like this before. Idiot.

(2,441 posts)I watched the apology, which was a sorry to anyone he offended apology, not taking ownership, claiming it was misconstrued or misinterpreted (maybe it was, but no responsibility at all?)
Theres no need to worry about the game, the schedule, the seeding. Thatll eventually sort itself out. Would Damar Hamlins health sort itself out, though? You can see the players were visibly distraught. They appeared to be in no emotional shape to play, and it wouldve been sloppy if they did.
What strikes me is how Skip has talked about his rough childhood and the father he was raised by. He should have more empathy, concerns and priorities for something awful - from the controversy with Daks brother to last night.
But this is what passes as acceptable for entertainment and money these days. Skip sold out his integrity, ethics and values for a paycheck and talking on peoples screens. He felt the need to draw attention to himself, make something terrible about himself.
I work in sports media. I never, ever, ever want to make something about me, let alone if Im covering something tragic.
It can be fun to dunk on Skip for his asinine sports takes, but I dont merely see somebody who runs his mouth and spouts ridiculous things going on in sports, I see someone who says and does awful things and laughs to the bank while doing it.
And for some reason, there are people who love it.
