Same old same old
Every day, waking
No alarm needed
Nothing on the agenda
No plans, no goals, no obligations
Every day identical
Not a Groundhog Day moment
Not a curse from on high
Just loss of ambition
Broken permission
Waiting for opportunity
Waiting to die
TV in the background
Spouting out drivel
The volume, my companion
The voices I hear
Sometimes I wonder
Where did the fun go?
When I was younger
More able, without fear
I’ve read all my books
I’ve cleared out my old house
It stands nearly empty
Nothing memorable
Only stark furniture
And a worn easy chair
Where can I go to escape
When stuck in rural hell?
No novelty nearby
No sights yet unseen
Just worn-out farms and factories
Cracked asphalt roads
Nothing colorful, all gray
Victims of time
The clock on the wall still ticking
Every second still the same
As I count in repetition
Numbed to the boredom
As I sit here waiting
For something to change.
