Seasons

Sorry for the length on this one, but they go together...

Spring

The last snows have melted
The air brims with optimism
As the first warm breezes
Return from the south
Carrying the spark
A jolt of life to the sleeping
The trees bud their first
Small infant leaves

Can this be the end
Of the cold Winter
A burst of new life
Arriving at last?

Is this the beginning
For all the new leaves,
The return of the robins
From their winter retreats?

A vulnerable time
Some days pleasant
Some days frigid
Some days stormy and violent
As the winds can’t decide
Between life and death
But in the end
Life will win out.

Summer

The world is alive
Green and growing
Everything moving
In early Summer

The days become longer
Stretching out daylight
Activity outdoors
Possible at last

But as Summer progresses,
And warmth becomes fire
Heat blazing humidity
Drives us inside

Heat everlasting
Cooking our spirits
Storms ever vioient
Melting our world

The freedom of Summer
Comes at the price
Of pushing endurance
Patience and time.

The months drag onward
We wish it would end
With a cool blast of Autumn
One last fling for memory

Perpetual Summer?
No, let me have seasons
A cycle of life
From birth until death

Autumn

A sigh of relief
A cool breeze breaks through the endless heat
Stifling and seemingly infinite
A glimmer of hope
The end can be seen
The finish is possible
As the blazing hot Summer
Meets its doom

Day and night become equal once again
Then night wins the struggle for time
As the Autumn begins its finishing touches
On the long months of Summer remembered

The leaves begin changing, fading from green
To colors vast ranging
A painting
A palette
Stamped in nostalgia
Of Autumns memorized
From childhood,
First days of school in years past

Cooler, then colder,
The year winds to its ending
Anticipation
As holidays pass one by one
The days shorter still
As light becomes scarcer,
The sun retreats further
Searching for the horizon

Life becomes frail
As warmth streams away
Birds migrate south
Animals hide
Firewood stacked high
For the cold Winter days to come…

Winter

The leaves have fallen
Trees spindly armed fight the wind
Cold from the North, biting frost
Cuts through the remains of the grassland
Snow, travelling horizontal razors
Slicing the eyes pointed northward
As Winter invades
The conquered defenders of Autumn

All things must die
Frozen forever
Heat pulled away
Blood becomes ice
And all life fades to black
In the last Winter
And all that we are disappears into time
Never to see Spring again
