Tennessee woman named 'Isis' at birth permanently banned from Facebook, Instagram

A Clarksville woman said she is banned from her social media accounts because of the name she was given at birth.

In a world where social media can be its own universe, Isis Crawford said she feels stuck in a box.

“I’ve had these accounts since middle school,” she said.

This week, Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, permanently banned and deleted Crawford’s account she had for years.

She believes since her name is the same as ISIS, the Middle Eastern terrorist group, they suspended her accounts.

Meta said Crawford’s profile is dangerous and could encourage terrorist attacks, support violence, or criminal activity

This woman needs to raise a big stink with Meta. Isis was a major Egyptian deity--long before ISIS existed. Lonestarblue Jun 2024 #1

I quit FB after Zuckerberg testified in front of congress and took zero responsibility for content and influence on kids, etc. I tried to join back up to use a specific bulletin board and advertise for a job, but the minute I did, my first sign in went to an automated message saying my account was suspended. For two weeks I tried to find a human being to talk to and found it impossible. Even talked to a former FB employee who gave me some contact info and even spoke to some people she knew,,,, nothing.

No human was likely involved in this decision about Isis, but she’ll never get reinstated because there’s no way to get a human involved in the appeals process.

I’d be interested in knowing how many other accounts exist within Zuckerberg’s communities with names that could be construed as terroristic or hate-filled. Seems too much work is done by algorithms instead of by humans who can take instances like these on an individual basis. I wonder whether or not a human played any role in denial of her request for reinstatement. Move on, Isis. Facebook isn’t worth your trouble.

Iris would have caused her a lot less trouble.

Isis is her given name. It's a beautiful name. This is an AI blooper and it's getting worse,

Maybe even an officer's kid, from somewhere else originally. Lots of kids who live there aren't from there.
