WASHINGTON — Nearly a month after his release from federal custody, Dr. Badar Khan Suri, a professor at Georgetown University, is reflecting on his time in custody.

"They literally disappeared me," Suri said Tuesday night to a packed room at Busboys and Poets. … Suri recounted the moments leading up to the night he was taken into custody in March.

"By 9:20 or 9:25, when I reached my apartment… I saw this something strange oldish black car was not driving in a perfect way," he said. As he approached, he said a masked man exited the car and asked, "Are you Badar?"

"I was shocked," Suri told the crowd. "I mean, this guy who was driving so badly, how he knows my name? He was masked, he was not wearing any kind of uniform, no badges, nothing. He looked like a proper militia guy."
"I was like petrified at that moment. All I could say was, yeah," Suri recalled. "He said, you are under arrest."
