1. It's the only thing I ever saw Zimmern spit out

and that guy got lutefisk down wihout a grimace.

They sell it at the international grocery when it's in season but they make sure it's encased in heavy wax and thick mesh so curious people can't give it the fingernail treatment to see what it smells like.

I've given it a miss, I no longer feel compelled to try new things just to try them.

If you want to try it, you now know where to get it, right here in NM. I'm not sure of the season, but I think it's either early in the season or just coming into it.

2. I can't conceive...

… that someone decided something that smelled like vomit was worth putting in his mouth. Just the stories of it make me hold my breath in the Oriental market when I can’t avoid getting close to them. *willies*

3. The taste isn't bad

I was out to lunch with some friends at a Chinese restaurant. The menu listed durian puffs, and we decided we had to try them. Cooked, the durian had no noticeable smell, and a subtle taste. Not bad, but not great enough to re-order.

99 Ranch, the big Asian market in these parts, sometimes has durian fruits for sale. Uncut, they don't have much of a smell that I've noticed.
