What's for Dinner, Sat., Jan. 18, 2025

Rutabaga fondue served with lightly steamed baby vegetables (baby carrots, baby bok choy, broccoli florets, sugar pea pods). Also has potato, miso and nutritional yeast.

No paywall link to recipe.

A friend who regularly travels to Philly and goes to Vedge Restaurant loves this item on the menu.

Ginger honey kombucha.

Dessert: almond flour chocolate chip cookies. They're so low in calories I can have 6 for 110 calories. A little larger than a quarter in size. Oh well. No sugar hot chocolate.

Thick ham slice with baby Swiss cheese on toasted pumpernickel rye bread. A significant amount of brown spicy mustard was applied.
Coleslaw.

I am sure I'll eat more later after TJ leaves for work. There is some spicy rice with sausage slices.

The pup lobbied for ham and cheese got a tiny taste of them, then got some baby carrots. I hear him munching on one across the room. Carrots are not his favorite crunchy snack, raw broccoli stalks are his preference.

It may be delicious (and I like root vegetables, especially in winter - even rutabagas!) but the name evokes peasant farmers with nothing else to eat in the harsh times!) Maybe calling them "Swedish turnips" or just "Swedes", like they do in Britain, would improve their image?

Name aside, the recipe does sound good!

but I'm thinking of orange chicken, since the tree finally has some ripe oranges and I have some leftover chicken. Maybe with a squash and carrot soup.

Roasted cauliflower with garam masala, chicken with a prepared korma sauce, and makhani dal (most of which is being frozen for later use). Still leftovers for tomorrow

Steam-fried in evoo and veggie broth: chopped onions, red bell pepper and garlic. When done add more broth and cut fresh green beans. When beans are tender add hot pepper flakes and salt and pepper to taste. Toss beans with farro wheat cooked in vegetable broth. Apple pie for dessert. Cheers! 🥂
Been to Vedge Restaurant a couple times. Great vegan fare but expensive.

A rather large baked sweet potato with salted butter with whole milk over ice and water. Which was more than enough for me.
