Plus a link to a page with a recipe for homemade pumpkin pie spice, which looks pretty good except for the addition of a pinch of black pepper, which she insists helps but personally I'd avoid.

I usually avoid both sugar and wheat. I'd recommend that most people avoid them most of the time. But we are heading into holiday baking season, and I love pumpkin and these spices, so I thought I'd post this OP and link for everyone here who also loves them.

2. I know. I've never seen a better assortment of recipes using pumpkin.

And if I'm lucky enough not to gain weight after finding them, it'll only be because I can't decide where to start...
