it will probably be surprising to them. 
Now that it think about it, I'm not sure about the staffers, but it probably won't hurt to make the offer and at the very least I'm sure they will appreciate the gesture.
I'm sure everyone will appreciate it and it's good to hear that you have made a new friend. Maybe you guys will be friends on the "outside."
