I have 1 day left of hydrocodone and the small pharmacy I go to just told me they cancelled it -

The pain doctor increased my dose from 4 to 5/day so that is 30 extra pills. First she said that , (because they are small?) they are only given so much of the drug and if they give it to me they won't have it for their "other clients" I just realized this is bullshit because when I traveled last year for over a month my doctor wrote an extra script for me and they filled it.


I am in FL. I want to report them but I am not sure who to report them to. Anyone know?

(They close at 5pm every day and are closed all weekend. She got mad at me because a couple times in the past because I sent my scripts to a pharmacy that was open during the weekends. Now I am screwed. I have been so sick with pain in my stomach for the last 5 days I have not left the house or barely gotten off of the couch, (hence the increase in pain pills). I have gastritis and had an ulcer. I am also losing blood and was told I had to get an IV of iron and tested for congestive heart failure). I am thinking of trying to go inpatient at some hospital because I live alone and have no family to help me anymore.

I cannot believe a person that is supposed to be a professional can be so damn petty

9. A few years ago prior to my back surgery my doctor suddenly cut my pain meds in half.

It was around the time that there was a huge backlash against narcotics. I was on quite a bit of oxycodone/OxyContin at the time. I knew that beyond the pain I’d experience I’d also have some level of withdrawals. That was when doctors who prescribed beyond what some central authority specified would get in trouble. Fortunately (for that specific time) I called my cancer doctor and she agreed to reinstate my full prescription. I think doctors who specialize in cancer treatment have special disposition Also fortunately when I had my surgery my pain almost completely went away.

11. I'm glad your pain was cut way down. I have actually thought about finding one of the best hospitals

in the country, (Castle Connelly's rankings that used to require a subscription but have now become free) and try to find a place that can maybe find a treatment that might work. I am so tired of being sick. And it seems like one chronic condition creates another one.

12. Yeah I hear you. Back then I was in really bad shape and couldn't even get out of bed.

I’ve had back problems for years and had already had a couple surgeries. While monitoring my back they found out I had become very anemic which led to them discovering multiple myeloma, a blood cancer. But when I went in for surgery they discovered the previous surgery had become infected and that was the source of most of my pain. I still hurt if I’m on my feet very long but other than that I don’t really have pain.

3. To go scorched earth...

First, call your doc’s office and tell them about it, and have the RX moved to a pharmacy that will fill it asap. They may know which one(s) near you have a patient reputation for less hassle. Health first. But then…

Write up a very factual, non-angry-sounding synopsis of how they screwed up your medical treatment. You will be using this to cut and paste *a lot* to the places described below.

1) Every state has a pharmacy board to report potential violations.Find the one for your state online, and start the process.

2) It doesn’t matter if they aren’t a BBB member. Go to the BBB website and file a complaint there.

3) Look for all the directories where they are listed, that have reviews - Yelp, Google, etc. Leave 1 star reviews with good detail.

4. If they are on Facebook, Xitter, etc., leave your reviews there also if there is an option, or respond to their latest post(s) with a publicly visible complaint.

Not liking your attitude isn’t amongst the usual reasons to cancel a prescription. However, point is, legally a pharmacist has the right to not fill a prescription.
Sorry you are having a rough time. I recommend contacting your provider and asking them to resend your prescription to another pharmacy. I doubt it will do you any good to go scorched earth on them.

When it comes to controlled substances, it is recommended that you stick with the same pharmacy. There is a database that tracks your controlled prescriptions. Providers and pharmacists legally have to check it before they dispense the medication. Using multiple providers, multiple pharmacies may raise a red flag.
