Don't know what is new about them. It is a very good idea though.

(7,272 posts)I was shopping yesterday and this was in the lobby of the shopping area. Like most I have seen is has electric and hand cranks.
Twin batteries on each side of the wheel with electric hub. It even has a headlight.
