'They Shouted Death to Arabs': Far-right Israeli Soccer Fans Assault Arab Bus Drivers in Jerusalem

Dozens of Beitar Jerusalem fans – supporters of a club with a history of anti-Arab bigotry and racist violence – attacked two Arab bus drivers after their team lost the Israeli national soccer cup final in Jerusalem on Thursday night.

The assault occurred outside Jerusalem's Teddy Stadium, after Beitar played against Hapoel Be'er Sheva in the State Cup soccer final in Tel Aviv. Videos of the incident uploaded to social networks depict several fans hitting one of the drivers and throwing objects at him.

“ Dozens of young Beitar Jerusalem fans showed up," he recounted. "I recognized them by their dress and the scarves. They recognized that I was an Arab after speaking with me. They started shouting out of nowhere, 'death to Arabs', and cursed and attacked me. More and more kept joining them."

“ There was no one there to help me besides this driver," he said. "The police only came after 20 minutes, perhaps even half an hour. They pulled me out from there and took me to Magen David Adom, which evacuated me to a hospital."

4. That strikes me as racist apologia. These were racist assaults of bus drivers.

5. When you're just as up in arms over these depictions of Jews and calls for our genocide. . .

Until then, it seems to me that whatever Israelis or Jews do is put under a microscope and we all suffer from collective guilt.

When you get called a murderer (as I was when I walked around U Pitt in my yarmulke with my wife a few months back) here and get told "Jews deserve whatever they get because Jews cause nothing but trouble" in two other countries. . .you'll understand my feelings.

When you get nearly beaten to death by six people in a forest at the age of 14 because they wanted to finish the job Hitler started, you can understand my feelings.
