CPKC's CP1201: First High-Horsepower Hydrogen Locomotive Enters Mainline Service
Fuel Cells Works | March 12, 2025
PKC, a major North American Class 1 railroad company, has officially deployed its first hydrogen-powered locomotive into regular mainline service. This innovative locomotive is currently operating on bulk freight routes, notably hauling coal for Elk Valley Resources, as CPKC evaluates its performance across challenging operational environments.
Based in Golden, British Columbia, this pioneering locomotive has been equipped with a cutting-edge hydrogen tender developed by HGmotive.
