CPKC's CP1201: First High-Horsepower Hydrogen Locomotive Enters Mainline Service

CPKC's CP1201: First High-Horsepower Hydrogen Locomotive Enters Mainline Service

Fuel Cells Works | March 12, 2025

PKC, a major North American Class 1 railroad company, has officially deployed its first hydrogen-powered locomotive into regular mainline service. This innovative locomotive is currently operating on bulk freight routes, notably hauling coal for Elk Valley Resources, as CPKC evaluates its performance across challenging operational environments.

Based in Golden, British Columbia, this pioneering locomotive has been equipped with a cutting-edge hydrogen tender developed by HGmotive. This tender, which is an adaptation of a previous design originally created for liquified natural gas (LNG) in 2019, supports the locomotive's hydrogen fuel needs and is compatible with other hydrogen-powered locomotives.

Who knows why Trump lies about hydrogen, maybe it's fElon. Thanks for being open-minded.

In any case, it's as if the entire topic is banned on US media. There won't be any stories about this on MSNBC or FOX. People ought to ask why?
