Aonce-popular tourist spot in Switzerland has been forced to close, and the consequences of warming temperatures are at least partly to blame.

What's happening?

As Powder reported, Skilift Schratten Flühli in Lucerne has stopped activity because a lack of snowfall has left the skiing slopes unable to open. In a statement, the ski site explained its winter season was now nearly half its typical duration.

Reduced business operations, in addition to costly necessary maintenance at the site, meant it was unfeasible to remain open.

Powder cited data from MeteoSwiss, the Swiss Federal Office for Meteorology and Climatology, which noted that as temperatures creep up, more precipitation falls as rain rather than snow, making it harder for Skilift Schratten Flühli to remain open for business.

I wonder how long it will take to create an avalanche.
I worked 6 winters in Breckenridge, Co and you could see change coming even ten years ago.
It won't be long now. East coast skiing and Midwestern skiing are barely a thing anymore.

There are at least a half dozen places open no where near as expensive & we need the tourist income.

5. For some of us in WNC, if you live in Florida, you are welcome to send your

money but we prefer you stay home since you spend half a year here but don't pay income taxes.

Came to WNC to ski, the money that they brought would all spend the same.
