Is Chrome authenticator extension safe to use?

Hi All,

I'm trying to do business with a company who requires either that I download an app on my phone (NOT happening. EVER!) or install the chrome authenticator extension on my desktop.

Also, will it function correctly with Ubuntu or W 7?

Gawd I detest this shit.
