Filing taxes on line with H and R Block

Last night I started to do my taxes with H and R Block. I have used them on line in the past but NEVER experienced this nonsense when I paid LESS and had NO "Tax Pro". I am not able to get their "tax pro" to help and the on line service will not allow me to see ANY of my forms or progress and I already paid them $144. I make under $40,000 a year in CA and can't afford to file with a different company at this point. The $144 was 3 times what they normally charge me and their on line help from their "tax pro" to "help" has been just the opposite. He has helped me get an ulcer instead and has me in tears from the anxiety for the last 24 hours. I have disability retirement and I can't even access that info to fill out forms myself. What should I try?

Would going into an H and R Block office in person be any help at all? I'll probably start to cry out of frustration alone. The computer system they have is screwing me BIG TIME and I am a tech moron so I am VERY, VERY UPSET!!!

I have since learned that H and R Block is fined $7 million for their fraudulent on line system. But that does not help me now. I doubt I owe any money but I can't visually see any of my forms to try to begin to figure out what is going on from their. How is this so called "EASY" (and expensive) process going to get fixed by tax day?

1. Have you tried United Way

or a local community resource center?

I used Taxslayer online which was free through United Way.

The system seems to be getting more complicated. I finally got both my Id.me and login.gov things working and I'm going to sign on once a week just to make sure I don't forget how or miss some system change.

Good Luck to you!

Do the libraries in your town provide tax preparation for low income people for free? You could check them out if they do. It's usually only on Saturdays, though, and it's pretty close to the deadline.

I wish I had some advice that was more helpful. I hope this gets straightened out for you. Good luck.

That brings up a menu showing all the forms with data. Click on any one of those and it opens up. I don't know what to say about the $144; I bought my copy from Amazon for $30. I have Deluxe plus State

Before, when I had the Mid Price plan for $55 I was able to see the forms, see the progress, go back and check, fill in certain forms (ACA) and follow along. This year I see nothing on the screen and there was some sort "drop box" (to see my forms) which I tried 4 times and it didn't work (I no longer have access to it since everything is in limbo with this "tax pro&quot .

I've tried EVERYTHING! I take detailed notes and all of mine from the last 24 hours has been, "I can't do this, Why can't I do that, Where the hell is the previous page, FUCK!!!, and What is going on, why can't I go BACK and even start over?!?". I can't even see the forms I already completed for The Fed and State taxes.

It's like the whole damn thing is frozen.

This year, I opened up my saved copy of the.pdf to get a figure to verify the AGI and... NOTHING. The link just spun and spun and wouldn't open the file.

I signed into their website and was told that I'd have to PAY to see last year's return. *cue smoke roiling from my ears *

Luckily, I kept all my old hand-written notes and figured out the number. They should never be included in the free file list. I will NEVER use H&R BLOCK again. 😡

Now I know why they were fined $7 Million!!! Deceptive practices, misleading info, purposeful misinformation, etc. I wish I read that article from Jan 2025 about this a week ago instead of last night. There were several articles on line about this fraud case from 2024 and 2025.

I've written several messages to the "tax pro" (who is 3 times the cost) and I've let them have it! About an hour ago as I was writing another message to the tax pro (HA! A pro at deception) and I got a call from "District Manager at H and R". Oooooo, I'm so impressed. I was pretty pissed off and I am glad he called at that moment. He gave me some BS about how my choosing a tax pro was 100% different than previous years' choices and that is why I am stuck. I said, "No, no...I am not stuck, your system has stuck me and that is why I am angry", and on and on. I asked him if I should go to Turbo Tax or an H and R branch office and tell THEM about HIM and make them correct their problem for free or have Mastercard put a hold on the payment pending a fraud investigation or perhaps file a complaint with the govt. telling them H and R Block is still deceiving people.
So now I am waiting, there was suppose to be a call back 55 minutes ago. He needs to email "corporate" about putting my "tax-pro review" back to the original way that worked for about $95. I doubt I'll get any refund and a letter of apology would be nice, instead I'll just be relieved enough to finally get some sleep.
And waiting, and waiting,.......

So far I have spent 10 hours (I'm keeping track) and I am not even back to square one. H and H block wasted my time again today from 7:30 AM until 11AM. Then again from 7 PM to 9 PM. I AM keeping track. I called them 3 times after I made a 7 PM call to the H and R phone number given to me from the "corporate" H and R and the "district manager". The help from the H and R (district manager) guy from 11AM was useless. I called the DYI person who was supposed to be informed about the status from H and R "corporate" about my problem but it didn't work. I called it over and over for 2 hours! Finally I got a rep who was honest. She told me that legally H and R Block screwed me and now I'm spending my time and energy on something that WILL NOT WORK THIS TAX YEAR! I wasted my time and energy and $ for trusting them to I call (4 times in 1 hour)I was cut off and have to start all over again per instructions from H and R district manager from this AM.

Now I'm told they are closed but I can get up at 5:30 AM when they aren't "busy and stressed" (this was the first honest person I have spoken with tonight). They are NOT helping me at all!!!!! This last rep told me that too many people are using their system and people are being cut off, not allowed to get into their system and I should file an extension when I call them at 5AM! That way maybe they can do my taxes when the reps aren't super busy and site keeps crashing. My my, isn't this soooooo easy!

What really pisses me off is that I make under $40,000 a year on a "teacher retirement disability" ( my classroom's mold destroyed my immune system before it was torn down completely after 6 months of coughing up blood as weel as the students constantly being sick)while US billionaires are not going through this fucking shit. They have tax loopholes and experts at their fingertips and they pay the big $$$$$$ while the poor US citizens are getting screwed by the IRS and have to pay their own money for tax prep done accurately. I hate this country more and more by the minute. There aren't enough HANDS OFF protests that can even begin to alter this GOP TAX BS!

I actually would like to see the US destroyed if that is what it takes to start over from scratch with a real govt that represents all citizens, not just the greedy, hypocritical GOP employees.

How fucked up is this system?!?!? The US government could fix these issues but they do not as long as they keep raking in their illegal gains.

Citizens are screwed and the GOP reps benefit from screwing us every way and any way they can, year after year after year!!! Isn't the US so wonderful?

End of rant!

Turbo Tax has always been reasonably priced for non-complicated returns, and its never let me down in over 25 years of use.

when he called me over an hour ago (still waiting for the "5 minute" call back I was expecting an hour ago). I sent some pretty angry messages to their "tax pro" and while I was writing another nasty gram H and R called me and I let them have it. I got BS run around and I even asked if he suggests I go to Turbo Tax since H and R sucks and were fined $7 million for your illegal practices which obviously continue. That was the "nice" part of the call. It was very difficult not to say FUCK! a zillion times a minute like I have since Wed PM.

This is my third year with them, and they are great. Literally, it is free, and they have a very user friendly site.

They did have an option to upgrade to pro help (for a fee), but I was sure I didn't need it, as my tax is very similar every year.

I hope this info might help you.

Everything is on hold now. I was able to file an extension at 7AM when I called them and used my tablet instead of my desktop since I couldn't see for 1 hours. I got up at 6AM as directed by H and R but I think my body was rejecting any more input since I have been up since Wed trying to resolve this problem. But then a whole new HUGE problem occurred...as I was getting ready to complete the taxes my computer suddenly would not let me in AT ALL and I have no idea what happened since I had been using it to do the H and R BS since Wed. It would not accept my password or let me reset it.

So I tried to fix the problem on my own but I think I screwed everything on my desktop computer in the process. I followed the prompts from Samsung and YouTube techs about resetting passwords. Now I believe that I have destroyed ALL of my documents, files, photos EVERYTHING!!! by following their directions. All my stuff saved on it since 2013 is GONE!

So now H and H Block has destroyed not only my taxes but also my entire computer.

I am on the verge of a 100% mental breakdown. Seriously.

My sister told me to hire a computer person to come in to try to get my stuff back if that is even possible at this point. She said she would NEVER attempt to do what I do with a computer and told me, "STOP!!!!!!! Do NOT TOUCH ANYTHING!!!". She told me to call her computer guy or I'll have a nervous breakdown (she's right). We are all tech morons I guess. Even my 91 year old mother who knows tech won't touch her computer when it comes to to important stuff. She pays a computer guy (the same one my sister uses).

Since I am near poverty as far as income goes and live alone I always try to fix stuff myself since I can't afford to pay anyone for any services. I can't get feedback from someone in my apt and have to figure out everything myself through trial and error (tech, home repairs, etc). This creates a gigantic waste of time and I usually screw it up in the process.

I hate tech and I hate having to file taxes when the govt already has all of my info. Filing
taxes is a rip off scam and everything related to tech is a rip off scam.
